Hand crafted necklace and earring set made of Czech Farfalle glass beads, Kauai West Side Lampwork glass focal bead and 10 mm Kauai West Side Lampwork glass beads.

Necklace:

This necklace is designed to focus on Cheryl Bush’s (Kauai West Side Lampwork) glass focal bead. The focal bead is 43mm long. The blue glass beads is Czech Farfalle (butterfly or peanut shaped) match a blue in her lampwork beads. I used blue fused 3-ply nylon beading cord which is soft, pliable and yet strong. There is no clasp, this is an easy 'slip on' necklace. The colors in Cheryl’s artwork remind me of the ocean seen on Kauai.

 

Earrings: These earrings enhance the necklace by using Cheryl’s 10mm blue lampwork beads and sterling silver findings. The style of ear wire is known as lever-back.

 

Care and cleaning:

Hand wash necklace and earrings using household dish soap and water. Lay flat to dry overnight. You can use standard jeweler’s polishing cloth on the earring posts. I do not recommend chemical cleaning because it may discolor the glass beads.

 

About Bead Crochet:

Seed bead crochet is labor intensive, dating back to the early 1820’s. Each tiny bead is touched 3 times to build the spiral rope.

First touch: All beads are strung onto the cord in a predetermined pattern.

Second touch: Crochet the first row of beads, adding one bead with each stitch and determines the diameter of the rope.

Third touch: The subsequent rows are crocheted into each stitch of the previous row adding one new bead while flipping the previous bead to the side.

Although this jewelry did not originate on Kauai (though of course I purchased the Lampwork on Kauai), my heart returns to the Garden Island with fond memories.
